dc.description.abstract | Since the first edition of Principles of Genetics was published, the science of genetics has advanced on many fronts: the sheep Dolly was cloned from a differentiated adult cell; the genomic DNA sequences of several organisms, including two eukaryotes, were determined; microchip technologies were developed to analyze gene expression; new insights were obtained into the genetic basis of cancer; and minute quantities of DNA isolated from a Neanderthal fossil were successfully amplified and sequenced. These and many other developments have prompted us to prepare a second edition of Principles of Genetics. Our intention has been to build on the strengths of the first edition, to update its content selectively, and to incorporate helpful suggestions from the students and teachers who have used it. | en_US |
