Education as a Global Concern
Abstract
This book is primarily for students, especially at undergraduate and masters levels. Its principal aim is to help engender a view of education as a humanitarian responsethat is not limited to the narrow context of disasters, but instead applied to all education. It is also the introductory volume to a series under that same title. Each contributing volume focuses on a different issue or human group, such as: situations of conflict and post-conflict, aid and education, HIV/AIDS, refugees and minorities. Others should follow. They are all illustrating and analysing humanitarian responses to educational needs. One of the aims of this book is to take the holistic approach that necessarily follows in such circumstances, and apply it to examining mainstream systems and the situation of the marginalized majority on and beyond their fringes.
