This book, like the preaching it advocates, grew out of many conver-sations and much discussion. its origins lie in an extensive in-service training programme in which we were involved with the lay and ordained preachers of the leeds north-east Methodist circuit. Sharing in the exciting and memorable conferences, preaching projects, and self-programming groups was a great privilege. We are indebted to all the preachers who participated in this project for all that we learned from working with them. We are particularly grateful to catherine Frieze and anne Vautrey who were co-facilitators of the project for some seven years and to John Summerwill who set up and edited the website, a resource additional to this book. it is not possible to name everyone else who made significant contributions, but we record our gratitude here.en_US
