As electrical engineering programs have become overloaded with various new courses, many universities have started to offer only one course in electrical machinery. Therefore, the primary purpose of writing this book is to provide a meaningful and easily readable textbook for a threesemester-hour introductory-level electrical machinery course. Clearly, the purpose of this book is not an introduction to the design of electrical machinery but is intended for students in electrical and other engineering disciplines who may want to teach themselves. It is assumed that the students have already completed an electrical circuits analysis course and are familiar with electromagnetic fields. This book has evolved from the content of courses that I have presented at California State University, Sacramento, the University of Missouri at Columbia, the University of Oklahoma, Florida International University, and Iowa State University. It has been written for junior-level undergraduate students as well as practicing engineers in the industry. The book is suitable for both electrical and nonelectrical engineering students or practicing engineers who may want to teach themselves.en_US
