    Abstract
This book was conceived and produced as part of a three-year research project of the Lincoln Theological Institute (LTI) at The University of Manchester. I am deeply grateful for the encouragement and financial support of the LTI trustees that made this possible.Particular thanks are due to the LTI’s director, Peter Scott, with whom lengthy conversations about climate change, religion and activism kick-started the whole project in 2007. He has been, variously, an advisor, sounding board, proof-reader, contributor and good friend from start to finish.
