A study on English to Vietnamese translation of noun phrases in J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter

Abstract

The study was carried out for the purpose of comparing English nouns and equivalent elements in Vietnamese. Comparing the translation of nouns in English and Vietnamese texts contributes to the common study of both languages on two aspects: teaching and translation. For research purposes, the English literary text Harry Potter (2007) (hereinafter referred to as HP) is selected. This text was written by the famous British writer J. K. Rowling. "HP" has become a literary phenomenon since its first publication in 1997, which contains many nouns with unique meanings, suitable for research purposes.
