    Abstract
Information theory is gaining popularity as a tool to characterize performance of biological systems. However, information is commonly quantified without reference to whether or how a system could extract and use it as a result, information-theoretic quantities are easily misinterpreted. Here, we take the example of pattern-forming developmental systems which are commonly structured as cascades of sequential gene expression steps. Such a multi-tiered structure appears to constitute sub-optimal use of the positional information provided by the input morphogen because noise is added at each tier.

Rhenium uptake and distribution in phaeophyceae macroalgae, Fucus vesiculosus

      Racionero-Gómez, B. (2016)
Owing to Rhenium (Re) having no known biological role, it is not fully understood how Re is concentrated in oil kerogens. A commonly held assumption is that Re is incorporated into decomposing biomass under reducing ...

Thermodynamics and kinetics of the FoF1-ATPase

      Chapman, Brian; Loiselle, Denis (2016)
We use the results of recent publications as vehicles with which to discuss the thermodynamics of the proton-driven mitochondrial FoF1-ATP synthase, focusing particularly on the possibility that there may be dissociation ...

Graphlet signature based scoringmethod to estimate protein ligand binding affinity

Singh, Omkar; Sawariya, Kunal; Aparoy, Polamarasetty (2014)
Over the years, various computational methodologies have been developed to understand and quantify receptor–ligand interactions. Protein–ligand interactions can also be explained in the form of a network and its properties. ...
