A survey of mathematics with applications

Abstract

We present A Survey of Mathematics with Applications, Ninth Edition, with the vision in mind that we use mathematics every day. In this edition, we stress how mathematics is used in our daily lives and why it is important. Our primary goal is to give students a text they can read, understand, and enjoy while learning how mathematics affects the world around them. Numerous real-life applications are used to motivate topics. A variety of interesting and useful exercises demonstrate the reallife nature of mathematics and its importance in students’ lives. The text is intended for students who require a broad-based general overview of mathematics, especially those majoring in the liberal arts, elementary education, the social sciences, business, nursing, and allied health fields. It is particularly suitable for those courses that satisfy the minimum competency requirement in mathematics for graduation or transfer.
