The fourth edition of Protective Relaying adds a number of new topics that have recently evolved into higher significance in power system protection. Regulations are playing an ever-increasing role in how protective relaying systems are designed, applied, set, and monitored. A discussion of those regulations that are related to power system protection, including their impacts on the work performed by protection personnel, has been added in this edition. The task of analyzing the performance of protective systems during system disturbances has also been receiving an increasing amount of attention. Scrutiny of disturbance events is recognized as a valuable tool for promoting better designs, rectifying errors, identifying faulty equipment and location of faults, and the promotion of sound application practices. A discussion of this subject, along with the nature of the tools available to facilitate such analysis, has been added in the fourth edition.en_us
