Issue Date: 2010
Publisher: Continuum International Publishing Group
Abstract: This book is practical, down- to- earth and easy to read. No academic theory – just lots of tips, advice and examples to show how the ideas I give work in practice. Although I address my sug-gestions mainly to teachers, you might also find this book helpful if you work in any role within education (as a classroom assistant, a school librarian, a lunchtime supervisor, and so on). The ideas and advice given here are based on common- sense observations and strategies that have worked for me. There is no ‘magic solu-tion’, no ‘silver bullet’ waiting for you in these pages – just honest and realistic advice. My hope is that you find this book a useful reference guide – one that you can turn to for ideas when you need them, or to find alternative strategies for dealing with your students. There is also material on the companion website, includ-ing some ideas about why students misbehave, some feedback from student interviews on which behaviour management strate-gies they believe work best, and a discussion about how students’ behaviour changes as they progress through their schooling.
