Abstract: Rapid industrialization has resulted in the generation of huge quantities of hazard ous waste, both solid as well as liquid, from industrial sectors such as sugar, pulp and paper, tanneries, distilleries and textiles, petroleum hydrocarbon and agrochemicals, etc. However, the safe disposal and proper management and utilization of hazardous waste present not only a challenge for the country but a threat to the scientific society as well. The management and recycling of industrial waste are essential for the sustainable development of society. Despite regulatory guidelines for pollution control measures, these wastes are being dumped on land or discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment, which causes environmental pollution and health hazards. In-depth knowledge of the physicochemical properties of various industrial waste and their chemical composition and environmental health hazards are still riddles to research.
