Title: The Effectiveness of Game-Based Learning in Vocabulary Retention among first-year English majors at Hai Phong Management and Technology University
Authors: Trịnh, Đình Tuấn
Abstract: Vocabulary is considered one of the most essential components in English language learning because it plays an important role in developing learners’ communication skills and academic performance. However, retaining newly learned vocabulary remains a common challenge for many students, which may negatively affect their language development and learning outcomes. In recent years, Game-Based Learning (GBL) has received increasing attention as an innovative and engaging teaching approach in language education. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Game-Based Learning in improving vocabulary retention among first-year English majors at Haiphong University of Management and Technology. In addition, the study explores students’ perceptions toward the use of games in vocabulary learning. A quantitative research design is employed, and data are collected through vocabulary tests and questionnaires. The findings are expected to indicate that GBL can positively enhance vocabulary retention, increase students’ motivation, and contribute to more effective English teaching practices.
